Italy Certifies Ultralight eVTOL for Uncontrolled Airspace
Jetson ONE, an ultralight electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, has achieved a significant milestone by receiving certification from Italian space agencies and authorities to fly throughout Italy. On October 16, 2023, Jetson secured two essential flight permits from the Aero Club d’Italia (AeCI) and the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC), making it the world’s first certified eVTOL for operation in Italy’s uncontrolled airspace. This certification includes the ability for licensed pilots to fly the Jetson ONE pre-production aircraft and authorization for remote unmanned flights, which will accelerate testing and product validation.
Jetson has already sold over 300 units of its eVTOL, priced at $98,000 each. The company moved its operations to Italy in 2022 and has been conducting research, development, and production in Arezzo, Tuscany. They also have a headquarters and facilities near Florence with an airstrip for testing and a customer experience center. Jetson recently presented three Jetson ONE units at the ZeroEmission Mediterranean event in Rome and emphasized their commitment to safety in achieving these milestones. Stephan D’haene, Jetson CEO, expressed the importance of safety in their operations.
