Malcolm Egun of FROGSHOP

An exclusive Tech Tribune Q&A with Malcolm Egun, the founder and CEO of FROGSHOP, which was honored in our:
Tell us the origin story of FROGSHOP – what problem were you trying to solve and why?
FROGSHOP was founded on the premise of bridging the gap between online and brick and mortar business when it comes to health and fitness.  Digitizing operations for gyms was long overdue, as this industry was slow to innovation when it came to retail/supply chain technology. We decided its time to assist this industry in ramping up as players in the age of information.
What was the biggest hurdle you encountered in your journey?

The biggest hurdle we encountered during our journey by far was finding early adopters to endorse our business model. It took us 2 years from our founding year (2017) to win our first customer. As a founder, it can be discouraging trying to convince your team to have the faith to persevere when things are idle.

What does the future hold for FROGSHOP?

The future is pretty bright for FROGSHOP. We’re working on a few strategic partnerships that will increase our distribution across multiple franchises. We also plan to enter new niche markets in the fitness space very soon. Stay tuned!

What are your thoughts on the local tech startup scene in Newark?

The local tech scene in Newark is thriving. The city of Newark has always been a diamond in the rough when considering its reputation. However, I believe there’s a ton of talented entrepreneurs in the city and its just a matter of time before Newark is seen as a promising tech hub for the East coast and beyond.

What’s your best advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

My best advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is to seriously never give up on your dreams. Locate a mentor that sincerely believes in you and confide in that person for mental growth. Entrepreneurship is a lonely road and during your journey, you will lose many friends. Your family will become estranged to a point and you will want to throw in the towel. But if your passion for innovation and change outweighs your emotions of discomfort, you will succeed!
