Nvidia Making New PC CPU to Take on Intel
Nvidia is reportedly developing a new CPU aimed at consumer PCs, potentially challenging Intel and AMD’s dominance, especially in laptops and AI-focused devices. The CPU will be based on Arm architecture, rather than x86, which might limit compatibility with many PC games and software that rely on x86. Nvidia’s new CPU lineup could be announced in September 2025, with a release around March 2026, potentially targeting business and commercial PCs initially.
While Nvidia has demonstrated success with Arm-based CPUs, such as those in Nintendo’s Tegra chips, and has strong performance in AI via its GPUs, the company faces a complex path toward gaming-ready PC CPUs. Running games on Arm architecture remains challenging due to software compatibility, though companies like Apple and Qualcomm have made progress with optimized Arm CPUs. Nvidia’s initial Arm CPUs will likely focus on AI workloads and energy-efficient laptops.
