Robot Wins at Rock-Paper-Scissors 100% of the Time
Mark Rober, a former NASA engineer and YouTuber, has created an unbeatable robot named “Rocky” for the classic game Rock-Paper-Scissors. Despite its simple appearance—a box with googly eyes and a 3D-printed hand—Rocky uses a fast hand-tracking system with an infrared motion sensor that detects your move up to 100 times per second.
This data is processed by a mini-computer, which calculates the perfect counter-move before you’ve fully extended your hand. Even strategies that increase human odds, like switching moves based on wins or losses, don’t work against Rocky, making your chances of winning effectively zero percent.
