Autonomous Factory Will Make 10M+ Phone Annually
Xiaomi has launched a 100% automated Smart Factory in the Changping district of Beijing, spanning 80,000 square meters. This facility follows a pilot factory in Yizhuang that produced a million units annually of the Mix Fold smartphone. The new factory, equipped with 11 automated production lines, will manufacture the MIX Fold 4 and MIX Flip phones, producing one unit every three seconds continuously.
Xiaomi’s Founder and CEO, Lei Jun, highlighted that the factory uses entirely self-developed production software, enabling it to diagnose and fix issues autonomously and optimize its processes. The factory maintains a clean environment with micron-level dust removal, and a small number of human operators manage the system from a control room.
While fully automated factories have existed since 2001, Xiaomi’s facility advances this concept by incorporating an AI-driven system that evolves its processes over time. The “Xiaomi Pengpai Intelligent Manufacturing Platform” enables the factory to self-perceive, make decisions, execute tasks, diagnose problems, and improve workflows autonomously. This platform represents a significant leap towards self-evolving smart factories, showcasing the future of automated manufacturing.
