Care Home Uses VR To Help Elders Find Memories
Downing House in Withington is conducting a trial led by Manchester-based firm VR Doctors, providing older people, including those living with dementia, with VR headsets to experience new things and recall past memories. The trial was successful, and the residents now participate in monthly hour-long sessions.
The initiative aims to improve physical and mental health, enabling residents to revisit familiar places and unlock memories, fostering conversations. The VR experience allows them to immerse themselves in various settings, even climbing Mount Kilimanjaro virtually. The technology has proven beneficial, relaxing the residents and stimulating their minds. The project offers a way to connect with the past and engage those with dementia.
