Interviews

Christopher Day of DemandJump

An exclusive Tech Tribune Q&A with Christopher Day, the co-founder and CEO of DemandJump, which was honored in our:
Tell us the origin story of DemandJump – what problem were you trying to solve and why?

I was frustrated with marketing ROI in previous companies I had and felt like it was a black box. I met Shawn who was the CMO of Overstock and he developed a strategy that was data-centric and measured everything and led to incredible growth. We set out to productize that. We combined all data cross-channel and applied math in new novel ways to produce outstanding results.

What was the biggest hurdle you encountered in your journey?

The biggest hurdle was developing an interface that’s easy to consume for marketers, both analytical and non-analytical. Also, the complexity of the process and the time it takes to truly model all of the data together. Cutting through the noise is difficult because many companies use the same words but don’t really do what they say they do.

What does the future hold for DemandJump?

The feedback from our customers is that DemandJump is the most critical technology powering their growth, and that is what we want to be known for. We deliver quantifiable value every day for our customers and help them achieve results in marketing that turn into real dollars that they have never experienced before. They’re reporting more traffic and revenue with less cost because they are aligning to the customer journey better than their competitors.

What are your thoughts on the local tech startup scene in Indianapolis?

We are so fortunate to have a great community with one degree of separation and people truly want to help each other. One of the most significant challenges that remains is making more growth capital available here. Indiana’s biggest export is wealth.

What’s your best advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Perseverance. Never give up. Put one foot in front of the other every single day, be willing to listen, focus on the power of one, and make friends with your competitors.
