Haptic Vests Enable Deaf to Experience Translated Music

Music: Not Impossible, an initiative by Not Impossible Labs, is using haptic suits to enhance inclusivity for the deaf and hard of hearing at live music performances. Audio expert Patrick Hanlon programs wireless vests with 24 points of vibration, allowing concertgoers to feel the music’s sensations.

The aim is to create a full-body experience, improving the feelings music can evoke. The technology has been tested at Lincoln Center and other concerts, offering a more dynamic and flexible approach than previous methods. The vests have shown promising results, allowing deaf individuals to connect with music through vibrations. Although still in development, the technology holds great potential for creating immersive experiences for all music enthusiasts.
