iPhones Will Stream Live Video on 911 Calls

First responder networks are backing a new emergency feature in iOS 18 called Live Video support. This feature allows users to video chat with 911 dispatchers and emergency responders, helping them locate and assist more efficiently. Platforms like RapidSOS Unite and Prepared are integrating with this system, which builds on existing Emergency SOS features such as voice calls, text messages, and location sharing.

This update is part of Apple’s broader initiative to enhance safety features, including Crash Detection available on iPhone 14 and newer, as well as certain Apple Watch models. Additionally, iPhone 14 and 15 users can utilize Emergency SOS via satellite to send texts and their location without cell signal. Other features include Fall Detection, which began with Apple Watch Series 4, and the ability to make emergency calls by holding buttons. iOS 18 also introduces satellite-based iMessage and Roadside Assistance.
