Maui Family Rescued Using iPhone Emergency SOS

Apple introduced a feature called Emergency SOS via Satellite with iPhone 14, allowing users to contact emergency services in areas without cellular connection. This feature recently saved a family from wildfires in Maui. A family trapped in a van during wildfires used this feature to get in touch with first responders when there was no cell service. Emergency SOS prompts users to answer questions until it connects with satellites, relaying the information to specialists who then alert emergency services.

The user’s emergency contacts can also receive the information. This feature has been praised for its effectiveness by search and rescue teams and has facilitated several rescues, including helicopter rescues. It’s available in various countries for iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models with satellite connectivity.
