Peter Tahmin of MailPix

An exclusive Tech Tribune Q&A with Peter Tahmin (co-founder and COO) of MailPix, which was honored in our:
Tell us the origin story of MailPix – what problem were you trying to solve and why?

For the first time in history nearly everyone is walking around with a camera in their pocket. Billions of photos are being taken daily, but very few consumers know how to print those photos stored on their phones. Sharing via text, social media, or even attaching a photo to an email is easy and done all the time, but the average consumer struggles to print that photo they just took on their smart phone. The goal of Mailpix.com and 1 Hour Photo is to easily enable the printing of photos on canvas, photo gifts, prints, enlargements and posters right off the phone and have them available within 1 hour for pick up at over 18,000 retail location in the U.S.

What was the biggest hurdle you encountered in your journey?

The pandemic was and is the biggest hurdle we and our employees encountered. We had developed a very unique startup culture when we were all together under one roof every day. Overnight, we had to close the office down and send everyone home to work. Maintaining the startup spirit and culture that we created was a hurdle we overcame with technology like Zoom and Skype and group huddles over calls.

What does the future hold for MailPix?

Our future is mobile! As more and more consumers are using their smartphone and tablets for their computing needs, MailPix is right there with them with more apps, mobile accelerated pages/responsive websites, and soon, SMS messaging in lieu of email marketing and communications with our consumers.

What are your thoughts on the local tech startup scene in Huntington Beach?

For s town with the reputation of being “Surf City USA”, it’s amazing to see how much local tech there is in Huntington Beach. We are lucky to be able to find and pull talent from HB and the surrounding areas. We also have developed relationships with career counselors at the local universities who specialize in sourcing software engineering students.

What’s your best advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Persistence and determination! Keep at it, find likeminded associates and coworkers and employees, and keep at it.
