Radio Station Replaces Journalist with AI Hosts
Off Radio Kraków, a Polish government-owned station, recently relaunched as the first radio channel run entirely by AI, replacing human journalists with three AI-generated hosts: Kuba, Emi, and Alex, who cover topics in tech, culture, and fashion. The change has sparked significant backlash, especially from former journalist Mateusz Demski, who released an open letter criticizing the decision as a dangerous precedent that threatens creative jobs. His letter quickly gained support, with 15,000 people signing a petition.
Off Radio Kraków claims the switch was due to declining listenership, not AI, and sees the AI presenters as an experimental relaunch. This controversy highlights concerns over AI displacing human jobs, especially since the station is taxpayer-funded. Polish ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski, have voiced concerns about the ethical boundaries of AI’s role in public and creative industries.
