Timothy Island of GreenSTOP
An exclusive Tech Tribune Q&A with Timothy Island (co-founder and co-CEO) of GreenSTOP, which was honored in our:
Tell us the origin story of GreenSTOP – what problem were you trying to solve and why?
GreenSTOP began from the pain point of waiting too long to buy weed at retail stores. That evolved into wanting a self service operation for an expedited and in control experience.
What was the biggest hurdle you encountered in your journey?
The biggest hurdles were gathering capital to create GreenSTOP Smart Dispensary products. The products are the world’s first multi-user vending machine, mobile app, and management dashboard for tracking. The other hurdles have been all the legal ramifications of operating in a market with a lot of red tape due to federal legalization not being fully enacted.
What does the future hold for GreenSTOP?
GreenSTOP is the “emerald standard” of buying cannabis in the 21st century. You get cannabis at your finger tips in seconds at a wide variety of locations – cannabis dispensaries, concerts, sporting events, hotels, cruise ships, box office retail stores, and all across the globe.
What are your thoughts on the local tech startup scene in Manhattan Beach?
I think its a booming and thriving community. Huge companies will emerge out of the Manhattan Beach area this decade!
What’s your best advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?
Never quit, have insane confidence the whole time, and constantly practice it. Never play yourself with a weak work ethic. So work your ass off each and every day to get your visions to become reality! Be prepared to do a lot of stuff you have never done before and get comfortable with that being the norm!
