97% Accurate Thought To Speech Tech Introduced
Researchers at UC Davis Health have developed a groundbreaking brain-computer interface (BCI) that can translate brain signals into speech with up to 97% accuracy, the highest ever achieved by such a system. The device was tested on a man with severe speech impairment due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), allowing him to communicate effectively within minutes of using the system.
The BCI captures brain signals when the user attempts to speak, converts them into text, and vocalizes the words in real-time, even replicating the user’s voice from before the disease. The system demonstrated 99.6% accuracy during initial training and continues to perform at 97% accuracy, offering hope to those unable to speak due to paralysis or neurological conditions.
