AI Empowered Tech Lets Paralyzed Walk
A paralyzed patient regained leg movement after undergoing a groundbreaking minimally invasive brain-spine interface (BSI) surgery at HuaShan Hospital, Fudan University. Led by Professor Jia Fumin’s team, this marks the world’s first successful case of a total paraplegic walking again using the team’s “triple-integrated BSI technology.”
The procedure created an AI-assisted neural bypass, restoring movement within 24 hours. This achievement builds on previous proof-of-concept surgeries and demonstrates the technology’s potential for scalability. Jia’s team plans further clinical studies to refine the approach, offering new hope to millions of spinal cord injury patients worldwide.
