Brenda Stoner of PICKUP

An exclusive Tech Tribune Q&A with Brenda Stoner (founder and CEO) of PICKUP, which was honored in our:
Tell us the origin story of PICKUP – what problem were you trying to solve and why?

I moved into a new home with my daughter after getting divorced. We furnished the new home and the delivery situation was not comfortable. I decided there had to be a better way to deliver bulky items with a better experience. The “good guy” solution was born. Use technology and great people to accomplish this task and elevate the user experience. Now we get to help the world’s best brands extend all the way to room of choice.

What was the biggest hurdle you encountered in your journey?

You name them. Team challenges, funding challenges – all the stuff startups endure. But our persistence and belief in the bigger goal of changing this experience wins.

What does the future hold for PICKUP?

We are already operating nationally, but the aspiration has always been to just be the way big and bulky stuff is moved locally. Over 50 lbs, less than 50 miles – we got it!

What are your thoughts on the local tech startup scene in Plano?

Great labor community, so many corporate headquarters (teaching customers), high disposable income clients? It’s the perfect place to launch any business.

What’s your best advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Trust your instincts, but back them up with good data. And if those agree, persist. Do not give up.
