BYD’s New Hybrid Technology Promises 1,250-Mile Range
Chinese EV maker BYD claims its new hybrid powertrain system can enable cars to drive 1,250 miles without refueling, offering an impressive 81 miles per gallon—over three times the US average for 2022 model-year cars. This would surpass the range of current hybrids, including the top-ranking Lexus ES 2023. Such advancements could increase the popularity of hybrids, known for their fuel efficiency, lower costs, and reduced range anxiety, serving as a bridge between traditional and fully electric vehicles.
BYD’s sales are predominantly hybrids. Other automakers, like Toyota, Ford, and GM, are also expanding hybrid offerings as EV sales slow. However, BYD vehicles won’t be available in the US market soon.
