Google Maps Finally Getting Police Reporting
Google Maps is now starting to display incident reports from Waze users, a feature announced in July as part of broader updates to improve incident reporting. The integration allows navigation users to see Waze-sourced alerts, such as “Police reported ahead,” with attribution to Waze drivers and a prompt to confirm or deny the report’s accuracy via large Yes and No buttons. The alert appears briefly during navigation and can be dismissed manually.
Currently, this feature seems to be in limited rollout, with only a few users reporting access. It may also be region-specific for now. This integration aligns with Google’s strategy to enhance navigation accuracy by combining input from both its Maps and Waze communities. Other related updates include replacing “speed traps” with a “Police” option in Maps’ incident reporting menu. These enhancements aim to provide real-time, reliable information for drivers.
