New Scratch Resistant iPhone, No Case Required

Apple has been granted a patent for an abrasion-resistant back panel made of glass or metal that could potentially eliminate the need for cases on iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. The patent describes the use of multiple materials for the chassis, specifically focusing on metal and ceramic. The patent reveals a moldable matrix with abrasion-resistant elements distributed in a regular pattern, making them imperceptible.

The Apple logo and camera areas would be free of these elements. While not a rumored feature like improved cameras or displays, it could be a significant selling point for those who prefer to use their iPhones without cases. Apple aims to create “naked” iPhones, as seen in their TV+ shows, and this innovation could potentially appear in future iPhones, possibly as early as the iPhone 16.
