Robotic Wolves Guarding Towns Against Bears

Japanese company Wolf Kamuy has developed solar-powered robotic wolves, initially designed to deter wild boars from damaging farmlands. These robotic wolves, known as “Super Monster Wolves,” are equipped with menacing features such as fangs, fur, flashing red LED eyes, and the ability to emit a 90-decibel howl while shaking their heads. Originally used to protect crops, they are now being employed to deter bears.

Bear encounters have become a growing issue in Japan due to factors like climate change, deforestation, and urban expansion, resulting in an increasing number of bear attacks and fatalities. By strategically placing these robotic wolves in urban areas, experts hope to deter bears from entering populated regions, protecting both humans and bears. However, while the robotic wolves offer a short-term solution, the long-term remedy lies in addressing climate change through conservation, renewable energy, and sustainable urban planning.
