Western Digital Unveils First 4TB SD Card
Western Digital is set to introduce the first 4TB SD card next year, targeting professional media and entertainment workflows. The card follows the SD Association’s SDUC standard and utilizes the UHS-1 bus interface, supporting transfer rates up to 104 MB/s. While not fast enough for raw 8K video recording, it’s suitable for high-resolution formats.
Western Digital will showcase the card at an industry event, although specific details such as pricing and NAND type remain undisclosed. Despite anticipation for higher-capacity SD cards since the SDUC standard’s announcement in 2015, this release signifies progress toward their potential. However, concerns about SanDisk’s reliability, particularly with reported SSD failures, may impact professional users’ adoption of the new product.
