Wi-Fi 7 Set to Offer 40 Gbit/s Speeds and Advanced Features
The Wi-Fi Alliance has announced that the Wi-Fi 7 specification, based on IEEE 802.11be technology, will be finalized by the end of Q1 2024. Wi-Fi 7 devices are already entering the market, offering speeds up to 40 Gbit/s. Utilizing three frequency bands (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz) with a channel width of 320 MHz and 4096-QAM, Wi-Fi 7 builds on features introduced by Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, including MU-MIMO and OFDMA.
This results in a significant 4.8X improvement over Wi-Fi 6. While current Wi-Fi 7 devices follow a ‘draft’ specification, most will support the full standard through firmware updates. Wi-Fi 7 is positioned for applications like AR/VR, offering superior connectivity for emerging use cases with high interactivity and immersion, even in dense environments
